Scholarship
What is scholarship? Do you know
exactly the meaning of scholarship? Actually there are 3 meanings of
scholarship. This word could mean a grant-in-aid to help students to further
studies. Another meaning is to describe about the character, qualities or the
activities of a scholar. And it also means a fund of knowledge and learning.
This is what makes English words is very interesting. One word can bring
multiple meaning. They are easily use in our daily life either in daily
communication or while doing work.
But here, the word scholarship
that I am about to describe is by the first meaning. It is the scholarship in a
form of financial aid. To help students pay for university fees, stationary and
living expenses. They are given to help students to further their studies in
higher level. Scholarship is also not given easily to students. It is given
based on various criteria. However, donor has their own purposes for giving out
the scholarship. That would depend on them. It is very lucky to get the
scholarship because at the end of the day, the students do not require to pay
back the scholarship money.
Please do not get confuse with the
meaning of scholarship and student loans. The purpose for both also is helping
students to continue study. But, there are few differences between these 2
words. Student loan money needs to be repaid after a student has finished his
or her study. They are not hard to get the loan. There are no private purposes
of giving the student loan like scholarship. Furthermore, students will have to
pay back the money extra around 12% or more from what they apply. Loan interest
also differs from time to time. And payment schedule is not constant. Sometimes
they need to pay earlier than scheduled.
It is good this scholarship program is
created. Not all people born with silver spoon in their mouth. Some unlucky
people need to work harder or do multiple jobs to feed their family. They don’t
even have enough money to buy food so how are they going to send their children
to study in higher level? Usually, children that come from poor family are
smarter than other students. It is just that their family is not affords to
send them to study in university. Scholarship could help them to pay for their
university tuition fees. Not only fees, their education requirement also they
can buy like stationaries, books and others that are related. They are also
provided with pocket money. So they will not facing daily survival crisis.
There are also students that need
scholarship money not only for their survival but they also need that money to
help their parents to reduce their family’s burden. Some students prefer to
find part time work to earn extra money to help families. If these people are
not helped, how are they going to change their life cycle? They will remains
living in poor condition. Nowadays, people are hard to find good job without
good education level. Thus, they should be given the opportunity to further
their studies like other people that their families are afford to support their
education. Surely they will compete to become the best.
Most of the poor
families are hoping to send their children to universities. Due to their hard
life, they wanted their children to change their living condition. Not to
mention becoming so wealthy. It will be enough if they are able to live better.
So that they will not have to live to make ends meet. Scholarship given will
trigger their success. They are aware of the golden opportunities will not
easily come. For sure they will struggle to success.
Out of our consciousness, this
scholarship scheme helps to build patriotism to those who receive. They sure
want to serve for the country as the return. They will become the engines to
the country in the future. In fact, we have to aware that scholarship scheme is
a type of a long term investment. It is a wise step to give scholarships to
excellent students which are in need. It is because every people either rich or
poor must have the knowledge to live in the challenging world in the future.
Nobody should be left behind. Everybody must be moving parallel. A very peace
country will be created.
Government should invest more on
people’s education. The chances to continue study also must be increased.
Government also must encourage private institution to pay for their student’s
education. But only to those who are worth it. This will help to reduce
government’s burden to pay for everything and some more giving out loans for
those who are not so lucky to get scholarship. Together, they help to increase
the education level for the country.
